Stand on the very ground and march out to the "Old French Lines," where American soldiers entrenched themselves during the epic Battle of Carillon on July 8, 1758. Join Fort Ticonderoga’s Fife and Drum Corps to lay a wreath and remember the day-long battle where the British had suffered casualties of nearly 2,000 men killed and wounded. The Battle of Carillon would prove to be France’s greatest victory of the French & Indian War. Preserved on the Carillon Battlefield at Fort Ticonderoga, is the largest series of untouched 18th-century earthworks surviving in North America. Legendary within the British & American army, personally remembered by many senior officers in both, this battle filled Ticonderoga with far more meaning than merely its strategic location.
