As part of the annual RecruitNY statewide initiative, Chilson Volunteer Fire Company will offer a free-to-the-public pancake breakfast. This event is so neighbors and friends can learn how they can be part of their volunteer fire department.
Volunteer fire departments across New York State are struggling with decreased membership and increased call volume. Like most volunteer fire departments, Chilson Volunteer Fire Company needs new members so it can continue to provide the highest level of protection for its community. They will be joining with 1,700 departments across New York State to raise public awareness regarding the need for volunteers and to highlight the rewards of being a member of a volunteer fire department.
“We hope that our Chilson, Eagle Lake and Ticonderoga neighbors will join us for our RecruitNY breakfast,” said Fire Chief Mike Trybendis. “It’s a chance for folks to meet their local volunteer firefighters and learn about the fire service. For example, even though our firefighter members are at the heart of our mission, it takes a lot of people with other skills and interests to keep the department running. Our department has always been a community affair, and we think that after meeting us more people will be interested in becoming part of the family.”
