The La Chute River Trail Extension connects the lower and upper trail systems, expanding accessibility and offering new opportunities for recreation and tourism in the region. This project has been years in the making, with planning beginning in 2016, and represents a long-standing vision for enhancing the community’s riverfront area.
“All good things take time and perseverance. That statement perfectly describes this project which began in 2016, but which required time to properly envision the project and more importantly, to fund it. The La Chute River Trail Extension project satisfies a long-desired goal to provide connectivity between our lower and upper trail system, thereby enhancing our local and regional tourism and recreation capabilities. Residents and visitors may now experience the full beauty of what our riverfront area has to offer and to do so safely and with more ease as they walk in the shadow and along the footprint of Ticonderoga’s vast industrial complex which once operated along this trail,” stated Mark Wright, Town of Ticonderoga Supervisor.
This achievement was made possible by New York State Department of State funding through the Environmental Protection Fund Local Waterfront Revitalization Program. The Town of Ticonderoga greatly thanks New York State and those who provided critical support for this project including the Essex County Office of Community Resources, Essex County Department of Public Works, Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce, PRIDE of Ticonderoga (now North Country Rural Development Coalition), Ticonderoga Highway Department, MJ Engineering & Land Surveying, Reale Construction, and Champlain Area Trails along with several Ticonderoga residents who provided letters of support.
Community members, supporters, and partners are invited to join the ribbon cutting and walk the new trail extension following the ceremony.
