Calvin Welch from Schenectady will speak to the Torch Club about old Adirondack maps and bring some. He and his daughter Caroline are curating a map exhibit "Lands but Little Known--Maps of the Adirondacks from 1556" at the Kelly Adirondack Center of Union College (May-Aug 2017). In September 1756, during the French and Indian War, the London Magazine printed a map that included this description of the Adirondacks, "This country by reason of mountains, swamps and drowned lands is impassable and uninhabited."
