JOIN US FOR A LUMINARIA WALK AT ESSEX QUARRY ON THE WINTER SOLSTICE ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 21ST BETWEEN 4 PM AND 8 PM.

Celebrate the darkest day of the year and the first official day of winter with a self-guided walk (or snowshoe, weather permitting). Winter fun for all ages! We welcome you to Essex Quarry Nature Preserve to enjoy a special luminaria walk through our trails. This is family-friendly, and well-lit, with shorter trails and rewarding views of the pond at Essex Quarry and winter woods.

DIRECTIONS: Meet at 2215 Lake Shore Rd, Essex, NY 12936. TIMING: Trails will be lit from 4 pm until 8 pm. People are welcome to come by anytime for those four hours to snowshoe or walk and enjoy the luminaria experience. REGISTRATION: Please register by 6:00 p.m. the day before the event by emailing torey@champlainareatrails.com, but it's also okay to meet us there on Thursday evening.

We recommend dressing for a winter hike. It will be chilly! Coats, hats, and mittens or gloves are a must. Get ready for an unforgettable experience! We will also have a drop box for our snowshoe drive at the event. Please consider donating gently used snowshoes as we continue to expand our winter programming and get more people on the trails.
