Nancy A. Carter will talk about the 2nd-century story of Thecla and her many followers in the 4th-6th centuries at the Adirondack Torch Club. She was a strong-willed and courageous woman who went against the expectations of society for her gender even when she was threatened with execution. Parts of the Acts of Thecla are surprising, given the time it was written. Could a woman have written this authoritative ancient text?
