In mid-May of 1774 Captain-Lieutenant John Montresor surveyed the fort at Ticonderoga, his report was not optimistic. Neglected for years, Ticonderoga was forced to house more soldiers following an accidental fire at the larger fort at Crown Point while the colonies spun toward revolution.
